A primary focus of research at Liverpool is lattice gauge theory.
Members of staff active in this area are Prof. Chris Michael, Prof. Alan
Irving and Dr. Paul Rakow together with postdoctoral researchers
Dr. Eric Gregory,
and Dr. Carsten Urbach.
We are active members of the national lattice gauge theory collaboration
UKQCD and have
access to facilities allowing world class computations in non-perturbative
QCD.
We are currently preparing for studies to be be performed on the
collaboration's 7 Teraflops
QCDOC
machine installed in 2005.
The main current physics programme is a study of hadronic spectra of
both standard and exotic particles together with matrix elements relevant
to hadronic decays and other standard model processes.
Another major area of research in the
theory group is string theory. The staff members
of this group are Prof. Alon Faraggi, Drs. Thomas Mohaupt and Radu Tatar.
The postdocs are Drs. Stephen Morris
and Maria-Cristina Timirgaziu. For further information see
the Liverpool string theory home page.
