The Beauty of Chess - Dr Maksymilian J Roman
31st January 2026
Chess, The King's Game, is an ancient board game popular across the world and the pinnacle of non-physical sports. It is at the same time simple and complex, easy to play but extremely difficult to master, solvable in principle, but not yet tamed. Because of its nature – limited board, prescribed movements of pieces and few rules beyond that – it offers a fantastic field to study absolutely beautiful mathematics. In this session, I will endeavour to introduce you to the world of chess and the maths that underpins every movement of every piece and how it all comes together to give us one of the best games in history. No prior chess experience necessary!
