In this session, we will quickly recap how probabilities surrounding independent events work, build an understanding of how having additional information changes the probabilities of non-independent events, develop some of the formalism for talking about conditional events, and interpret some common examples that you will already be familiar with in this context to investigate the implications of this in real-world scenarios. In particular, we will try to estimate the chance of a false positive or false negative COVID-19 test using some rough data.
