PhD studentships
- We expect to have two or three STFC "quota" awards to commence in October 2012,
for research in theoretical physics. These 3.5-year awards cover fees and
maintenance for UK students. For 2011/12 the STFC maintenance stipend
is £13,590.00.
Enquiries may be made by email, regular mail or phone to Mrs Jean Settle
(see below). Alternatively, you can submit an
Application Form directly, but it is recommended that you at least examine
the
Postgraduate Prospectus first.
Priority is given to students with equivalent of first class honours changing
university.
- From time to time, the department also has teaching associateships, which are funded by
the university for four years but include teaching obligations. Unlike the STFC
position, the funding of these positions does not depend on the nationality of
the student.
- We also have successfully applied for EPSRC studentships for appropriate
mathematical topics. Candidates with mathematical interests may also be
eligible to apply for a University studentship for research in Mathematics.
- Non-UK students from EU countries are eligible for STFC awards but on
a fees-only basis; that is, they must cover maintenance costs from their own or
other resources. The fees for EU applicants (including the UK) are currently
(2009/10) £3,732 per annum. Students without a maintenance grant must
provide evidence of maintenance funds of around £5000 to £7000 per
annum.
For applicants from non-EU countries the 2011/12 Mathematical Sciences tuition
are £10,500. For well-qualified candidates, there are
Scholarships
available resulting in a substantial reduction of the fees.
