Information on how to get to the Liverpool Theoretical Physics group

The Theoretical Physics Division is in the Mathematical Sciences Building.

How to get into the building

The main entrance of the Theoretical Physics Division is in the Mathematical Sciences Building (building 206 on the campus map). To proceed from the Foyer, follow the signs for the lift and you will see the doorway for Theoretical Physics on the left hand side. Enter the double doors and follow the signs for Theoretical Physics until you get to the staircase at the end of the corridor. Most of the Division's offices are on the first floor. Go up the stairs and turn right, follow the corridor to the very end, going through four fire doors. The Chris Michael Seminar Room (117) and our Common Room (118) are at the end of the corridor.

Disabled access to the TP division is via the card swipe entrance on the Guild side of the (low part of the) building 206 on the campus map. It is locked to non-swipe card holders but admittance can usually be gained via the voice intercom.

Here is a link to google maps for our building (via the postcode L69 7ZL).

From Liverpool Lime street

If you come to Liverpool by train, you will usually arrive at Liverpool Lime Street (the only station for long distance trains). There are signposts to the University of Liverpool. (As the main campus is next to the (Metropolitan) Catholic cathedral, you may follow the signs for that as well.)

The best thing to do is to go left along the main road outside Liverpool Lime Street Railway station until you see Brownlow Hill (the big Britannia Adelphi Hotel is on the corner), then turn left and walk up Brownlow Hill to the University. It is approximately a fifteen minute walk from the train station to the University.

Some useful maps are here.

You can also get a taxi, though it will be a fairly short ride. Tell the driver to drop you off at Peach street, which is the small road leading into the campus from Brownlow Hill, with a SPAR market at the corner. (Some drivers may ask which University; our group is part of University of Liverpool, not John Moores!) Please keep the receipt.

By car

If you are coming by car, note that the University of Liverpool campus is very close to the (Metropolitan) Catholic Cathedral, with a pay as you go visitor's car park accessible from Mount Pleasant (the entrance to the car park is right on the map grid corner C/D 5/6 of the map).

From the Adelphi Hotel

If we arrange accommodation for seminar speakers, it is usually at the Adelphi hotel. To get to the Adelphi hotel from Liverpool Lime Street railway station, turn left on the big road outside the station. The Adelphi is about a five minute walk from the train station. The road on one side of the Adelphi hotel is called Brownlow Hill. Just walk up this road, until you reach the University of Liverpool.

From Liverpool airport

Here is some information about Liverpool John Lennon airport.

There is a very convenient and fast bus connection to the city centre by the express bus number 500. (There are also slower buses, that you probably don't want to use unless for a direct connection to some University Halls of Residence.) Liverpool Express Bus Service No. 500 stops directly outside the entrance of the airport terminal building. It is operated by Merseytravel and departs every 20 or 30 minutes, depending on the time of the day, calling at Chapel Street, Norton Street (for National Express connections), Lime Street (for rail connections), Queen Square Bus Station and Paradise Street Bus Station, before making its way back to the Airport. This service operates between the hours of 05:10 and 00:00, see the bus timetables. You pay the bus driver when getting on the bus (please keep the ticket). Get off at Lime Street for both the Adelphi hotel or the University.

A taxi from the airport to our building will cost about 15 pounds.
