`Reaching NNLO accuracy with parton-shower event generators: the POWHEG+MiNLO approach' Abstract: Monte Carlo event generators are used extensively in many LHC searches. I will briefly review the basic concepts and approximations upon which these tools are built and explain the theoretical developments (and motivations) that in the last decade allowed to improve substantially the accuracy of these programs. I will then introduce in some detail two of these methods (POWHEG and MiNLO), explain how their combination allows to match parton showers with NNLO computations, and show results for inclusive Higgs production.
