`Non-constant gauge couplings and gauge field masses'

Abstract: The question of implementing space-time dependent gauge
couplings in a gauge theory is addressed. Both the case of QED with a
non-constant electric charge $e(x)$ and the case of QCD with a
non-constant gauge coupling $g(x)$ will be treated. A connection
between non-constant gauge couplings and gauge field masses will be
presented.
