------------------------------------------------------------------------- `Neutrino mass models and sizable theta_13' Abstract: Recent results from T2K, MINOS and Double Chooz all indicate a sizeable reactor angle theta_13 which would rule out conventional tri-bimaximal lepton mixing. If confirmed, such a result might challenge the idea of an underlying non-Abelian discrete family symmetry that governs the flavour structure of leptons and possibly also the quarks. Is there a way to reconcile a relatively large theta_13 with family symmetry models? In my talk I will discuss various model building strategies to implement a non-zero theta_13. I will argue why family symmetries, which have been tremendously popular over the last seven or so years, remain appealing and do not perish that easily. -------------------------------------------------------------------------
